NCEA Level 1 Subject Selection Guide

All students in Years 11-13 must select 5 subjects and 2 backup subjects to ensure flexibility in case of full classes or timetable clashes.

Year 11 Compulsory Subjects

At Kaipara College, we prioritise a well-rounded foundation in Year 11 to set students up for future success. The following subjects are compulsory for all Year 11 students:

• NCEA Level 1 English
• NCEA Level 1 Mathematics
• NCEA Level 1 Science

Important: For the Science component, students can choose between:

• NCEA Level 1 Science
• NCEA Level 1 Agriculture/Horticulture

You also have the option to select both courses if you're interested in expanding your learning in these areas. Please see Mr Coleman or Mrs Farnan if you wish to select Level 1 Agriculture/Horticulture as your science component for Year 11.
