Level 2 Painting - Moving beyond Boundaries - learning about contemporary painting practice

Level 2 Painting students exploring a wide range of painting and drawing methods

that relate to contemporary Art Practices and to their own personal investigations. It is a course for students who have achieved  Level 1 Visual Arts and want to expand their painting and creative thinking skills. Students are expected to work in new ways and undertake experimentation, engage in research and artist analysis to help further develop and regenerate their ideas.

The course involves learning about contemporary Painters and their ways of working, with an emphasis on building practical skills and combining this with high level thinking skills leading onto the making of strong compositional artworks.

For the external portfolio board achievement standard (2.4) Students choose their own subject matter from the course theme of ‘Moving Beyond Boundaries’ and extend their knowledge of skills, techniques and exploration of paint media (from the internal standards in Semester 1) and apply these techniques, processes and ideas to produce a systematic body of work that regenerates and develops confident ideas for painting compositions.

Level 2 Painting leads to Level 3 Painting and can lead on to pathways within the Creative Industries, Design and Visual Arts. Further study in Fine Arts, Design or Architecture will lead to rewarding career outcomes.
