2025 Year 10 Subject Selections

As you near the end of your first year at Kaipara College, it’s time to take an exciting step forward in your learning journey. We  invite you to select your Year 10 Subject Selections for 2025—a pivotal moment where you can explore your passions and unlock new opportunities.

This is your chance to venture beyond your core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, and Health & Physical Education, and delve into other areas that may spark your curiosity and inspire your creativity. At Kaipara College, we believe in nurturing your unique interests and strengths.

Why Year 10 Options Matter

The subjects you choose in Year 10 lay the foundation for your future NCEA studies. They offer you the chance to broaden your horizons, explore new areas of interest, and start shaping the educational path that’s right for you. The choices you make today will help you pave the way for NCEA Level 1 in Year 11 and beyond. Your journey is uniquely yours, and we’re here to help you every step of the way!

How to Select Your Options

Step 1: Explore the Options

Start by discovering the diverse range of subjects we have available. Take your time to read the course descriptions and think about what excites you. What captures your interest? What challenges you? Talk to your classmates, whānau teachers, and subject teachers for guidance and insight. Building these relationships will help you make informed decisions.

Step 2: Make Your Choices

• Choose TWO subjects from Line 1 and have two back-up options in case your first choices can't be timetabled. 
• Then, choose TWO subjects from Line 2 with two more backups.

IMPORTANT: Each subject runs for one semester (approximately two terms). However, you can take Te Reo Māori for the full year (two semesters) if you choose. If you want to commit to a full year of Te Reo Māori simply email Bernard Coleman directly at [email protected]. Please note, you can’t take the same subject twice in one year. The Sport Academy is by application only (see course for more information) and is a year-long commitment. 

Step 3: Rank Your Preferences

After selecting your subjects, be sure to rank them in order of preference. This helps us understand which subjects you are most passionate about.

Step 4: Submit Your Selections

Don't wait! Submit your selections no later than 3 PM on Thursday, 17 October 2024. Time flies, and we want to ensure you get your top choices.

Your subject selections will be finalised and confirmed with your Kaitiaki (Dean) in the first week of school in 2025.
