Now that you are coming to the end of your first year at Kaipara College, we are delighted to invite you to select your Year 10 Options Subjects for 2024, a pivotal moment in your high school journey. Options are those subjects that you will take outside your core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and Health and Physical Education. At Kaipara College, we believe in nurturing your unique interests and abilities, and Year 10 Options are where you get to shine while upholding our school's core values of whanaungatanga, aroha, kaitiakitanga, and angitūtanga. Year 10 Options subjects offer you a special opportunity to explore a range of learning areas, allowing you to broaden your horizons and pave the way for your NCEA Level 1 studies in Year 11. The path you choose is entirely yours, and we're here to help you make the best decisions for your future, guided by the values that make Kaipara College awesome.
How to Select Your Options
Step 1: Explore the Options
Take your time to read through the descriptions of the courses available. What excites you? What piques your curiosity? Connect with your classmates, whānau teachers, and subject teachers to build meaningful relationships that support your journey. The following courses will be available to select next year:
- Art (10ART)
- Performing Arts (10PERA)
- Music (10MUS)
- Te Reo Māori (10TRM)
- Enterprise (10ENT)
- Japanese (10JAP)
- Horticulture (10HORT)
- Materials Technology (10MAT)
- Processing Technology (10PRO)
- Design & Visual Communication (10DVC)
- Digital Technology (10DIG)
- Sport (10SPORT)
Step 2: Make Your Choices
You'll pick TWO subjects from Line 1 and have two back-up options in case your first choices can't be timetabled. Then, you'll choose TWO options from Line 2 with two more backups.
Important Note: Each options subject runs for one semester (approximately two terms). The only exceptions are Te Reo Māori and Japanese, which you are able to take for a double-semester (whole year) if you choose. For all other subjects, you can't take the same subject twice. If you would like to select Te Reo Māori or Japanese for the full year, please email Mr Coleman at [email protected] directly.
Step 3: Rank Your Preferences
Once you've made your choices, rank each selection in order of preference.
Deadline Alert: Don't procrastinate! Submit your selections no later than 3 PM on Friday, 27 October 2024. Time flies, and we want to ensure you get your top choices.
Option selections will be finalised with your Kaitiaki (Dean) in the first week of school in 2024.
