Teacher in Charge: Miss A. Sergeant

Level 2 Biology - Semester A

This course teaches students about how life is possible at the cellular level.  Students will do a practical investigation using microscopes. The course covers how cells are structured and how they function. The processes covered are membrane transport, respiration, photosynthesis, DNA replication and cell division. These are enzyme controlled processes.

Curriculum Skills:

  • Practical skills-Using a microscope and making slide preparations.

  • Research the application of osmosis in the real world.

  • Participating and contributing-Planning and carrying out an osmosis investigation.

  • Using language, symbols and text-Understanding scientific definitions and cell processes.

  • Thinking-Applying biological facts and processes to real life situations in living organisms.

  • Relating to others-discussing data, learning from peers, discussing with others.

  • Managing self-Revision and study techniques in preparation for the external examination in November.

In order to gain a Course Endorsement, students will have to go onto study Semester B of Level 2 Biology.
