Level 1 Music - Play That Funky Music

Level 1 Performance Music in Semester A is a practical course based around group work and songwriting. You will be writing and performing songs for a performance at the annual RockQuest event, as well as entering song in the Play it Strange competition. 

By learning and demonstrating practical skills in music creation, performance, and research, you will develop a deeper connection and understanding of the music you listen to, as well as how it functions within your own context. Study in music requires passion, commitment and self-motivation, which are not only the skills required to follow a career in the Performing Arts, but skills that will serve you well in all aspects of life.

First, we will be focus on song writing and developing performance skills as a group.

Then we put all of our work into practice. We perform at Rockquest early in the term, and then move to recording and entering our songs into Play it Strange.


L1 Music - Semester B, L2 Music - Semester A

Careers using Music, Drama, and Performing Arts include:
Musician (solo, band, orchestra), Music or Drama Teacher, Songwriter, Conductor, Actor (working in film, Television and Theatre), Theatre Technician, Stage Manager, Prop Builder, Arts Administrator, Barrister, Broadcaster, Choreographer, Cinematographer, Playwright, Copywriter.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Access to an instrument at home is a great bonus for this course. While you can do it without, you will make even more progress if you can continue your practice out of the classroom environment.

Prior Learning & Prerequisites

Year 10 Music OR Participation in Band Factory OR via audition with Mr Roberts or Mr McLarin

Credit Information

This course is eligible for subject endorsement, however, you will need to select both Semester A and B.
