Level 2 Painting - Moving beyond Boundaries - learning about contemporary painting practice
Level 2 Painting students exploring a wide range of painting and drawing methods that relate to contemporary Art Practices and to their own personal investigations. It is a course for students who have achieved Level 1 Visual Arts and want to expand their painting and creative thinking skills. Students are expected to work in new ways and undertake experimentation, engage in research and artist analysis to help further develop and regenerate their ideas. The course involves learning about contemporary Painters and their ways of working, with an emphasis on building practical skills and combining this with high level thinking skills leading onto the making of strong compositional artworks. For the external portfolio board achievement standard (2.4) Students choose their own subject matter from the course theme of ‘Moving Beyond Boundaries’ and extend their knowledge of skills, techniques and exploration of paint media (from the internal standards in Semester 1) and apply these techniques, processes and ideas to produce a systematic body of work that regenerates and develops confident ideas for painting compositions.Level 2 Painting leads to Level 3 Painting and can lead on to pathways within the Creative Industries, Design and Visual Arts. Further study in Fine Arts, Design or Architecture will lead to rewarding career outcomes. |



Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
The basic art materials such as communal paint, inks, dyes, specialty papers and communal pencils and brushes will be available.
It is highly recommended at this level that students have a take home kit that includes their own quality synthetic brushes. fine art student paint, a selection of drawing and design pencils and a quality visual diary.
A basic take home kit at wholesale prices would cost approximately $60-70. Students will be able to place an order at the start of the year to purchase the materials that they want for their personal practice or are free to supply their own.
Prior Learning & Prerequisites
A Merit or higher level pass in Level 1 Visual Arts Painting Boards would be advantageous.
If students wish to take Semester B - the external Visual Arts Painting Portfolio Boards they must have first achieved both the internal Level 2 Painting standards offered in Semester A (see details below).
This course is the prerequisite for Level 3 Visual Arts Painting. Painting is a UE approved subject at Level 3

Credit Information
This course is eligible for subject endorsement, however, you will need to select both Semester A and B.
This course is approved for University Entrance however, you will need to select both Semester A and B.
Total Credits Available: 12 credits.
