Course Description

NCEA Level 1 Materials Technology (1MAT)

 The course will appeal to students interested in creating technological outcomes, using mixed materials, and developing workshop skills that may support a career in the trades.

Materials Level 1 provides students with an opportunity to complete a mix of both Achievement Standards and Unit Standards.  The Achievements Standards use mixed materials and follow the technological process of the development of a product.   The Unit Standards work alongside these to develop practical workshop skills.  This course therefore enables students to explore pathways to either Senior Materials Technology or trades based courses.

Leads on to Materials Technology, Carpentry or Engineering at L2 and L3. Engineering, building, fabrication, upholstery, trades pathways.

There may be a cost associated with taking projects home. This will be determined on a project-by-project basis.
