Course Description

NCEA Level 1 Te Ao Haka (1TAH)

At Level 6 of the curriculum, students in Te Ao Haka discover, identify, access, and explore foundational knowledge and ideas in and about Te Ao Haka. There are no prerequisite to being apart of Te Ao Haka. Students of Te Ao Haka develop a range of skills and dispositions that enable them to become life-long learners and equip them for future success.

Te Ao Haka embodies several dispositions, giving ākonga the opportunity to grow into proud, confident, disciplined, resilient, accountable, hard working, committed, humble leaders who are able to work collaboratively. The skills of manaaki, tiaki, aroha, whakapono, aumangea, tiaki wā and tōngakingaki will provide lifelong learning for ākonga.

This course is for any student who is interested in Māori Performing Arts and Māori cultural practices and knowledge. The course work combines a mix of practical activities as well as research and written tasks. There are no prerequisites for this course. This course will require students to participate and contribute, manage self and use language, symbols and text to complete the standards.
