NCEA Level 3 Music (3MUS)

Students with a passion for performing and writing their own music should take this class.  The emphasis is on live performance and songwriting. At NCEA Level 3, students will be supported in focusing on their musical areas of interested, with the goal of continuing beyond their school career. The course requires significantly more output than the NCEA Level 2 Performance Music course.

Through a Pedagogy of Guidance + Action + Experimentation - students who learn in the Arts Faculty will:

  • Have opportunities to engage and experiment with various arts-related technical disciplines in a safe supportive environment.  
  • Develop a love of the arts with a leisure activity that supports wellbeing.  
  • Develop the skills and attitudes needed to gain access to further education and/or employment in the creative industries.
  • Understand the role of the arts in the world as a tool for making diverse people/cultures visible and as a tool for social justice. 
  • This course is suited to those interested in a career or tertiary study in music performance, or the extensive performing arts sector.

Students must play an instrument (voice is included as an instrument) and be receiving weekly lessons with a private tutor or itinerant music teacher.
