Course Description

NCEA Level 2 English (2ENG)

NCEA Level 2 English will offer students a wide variety of learning based on the interests and needs of the students in each class. Students will get to explore a variety of different genres and text types. This course will give students the opportunity to gain credits toward University Entrance Literacy, which is a required qualification for tertiary education and an entry qualification to a range of further learning opportunities and trades.

The course is strongly linked to the key competencies of thinking, relating to others, using language, symbols and texts, managing self and participating and contributing.

In NCEA Level 2 English, students will learn to integrate sources of information, processes, and strategies purposefully, confidently, and precisely to identify, form, and express increasingly sophisticated ideas. These processes and strategies will enable students to learn how to use and enjoy language and literature, and to show a discriminating and insightful understanding of how texts are shaped for different purposes and audiences.  Students will gain confidence in their ability to communicate effectively in a variety of forms.
