Level 2 Taste of Tourism
Why should students take this course?
This course offers 19-23 Level 2 vocationally based unit standard credits in Tourism. It is especially suitable for students who are interested in working with people. Taste of Tourism complements other subjects including hospitality, geography, and business studies. It also provides skills and knowledge for various industries such as retail, customer service roles, banking, administration, and hospitality.
This course is an introduction to the travel and tourism industry
This course will introduce students to the process of tourism and tourism terminology.
Students will learn how tourism operates, this knowledge can also be used in other service-type industries.
This course will also introduce students to the destination knowledge required in the industry.
Tourism was a significant industry in New Zealand and worldwide. In 2018, tourism directly employed 8% of the total New Zealand workforce. Although this has changed the main skills and attributes required in the workplace have not so this course will give you the opportunity to explore job opportunities within various industries.
The New Zealand tourism industry is diverse and is made up of five main sectors. These sectors include transportation, accommodation, sales and activities, attractions and events and provides a vast range of work opportunities.
With the current situation globally tourism’s importance has shifted however the skills and knowledge that you gain in this course can be transferred to many other industries and jobs.
Currently, there is a shortage of Tourism and Hospitality workers in New Zealand.

Total Credits Available: 19 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 19 credits.
Selection of a course does not guarantee entry into the course. Courses may not run due to low numbers and timetable clashes may occur. In both of these situations, the student will be consulted about alternative courses during the Course Confirmation process.
