L2 Business Innovation - Kiwi Made - The ECO STORE Story - Semester B
This course is offered in Semester A and B - Students can take one but NOT both.
Why take Business Innovation?
Students who take this course will discover how EcoStore became a popular NZ brand from humble beginnings in rural Whangarei to international success in Australia and Asia. We will be using the EcoStore case study to learn business concepts such as citizenship and environmental sustainability and put into practise our business skills such as problem-solving and innovation and analysing data by using google sheets and charts. Learn more about business development from researching the successful Kiwi entrepreneurs Malcolm and Melanie Rands, the founders of EcoStore.
Learning Objective 7.1
Students will gain knowledge, skills and experience to: explore how and why large businesses in New Zealand make operational decisions in response to internal and external factors.
L2 Key Business Concept: Citizenship and Environmental Sustainability/Kaitiakitanga
L2 Key Business Value: Excellence, by aiming high and by persevering in the face of difficulties
L2 Key Business Skills: Research and Reporting
What is Business Innovation about?
The study of business Innovation is about how individuals and groups of people organise, plan, and act to create and develop goods and services to satisfy customers.
Business is influenced by and impacts on the cultural, ethical, environmental, political, and economic conditions of the day. Issues such as sustainability, citizenship, enterprise, and globalisation are central to both business and the study of business.
The knowledge and skills gained in business studies, and exposure to enterprise culture, can help shape “creative, energetic, and enterprising” young people (the curriculum vision statement) who will contribute to New Zealand’s economic future.
Learning Context
Students will be reading extracts from Malcolm Rands biography, researching the EcoStore web site and reporting on the company vision, their products and their potential in the future by using tools such as google sheets and PEST.
