Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr N. Roberts.

NCEA Level 2 Music (2MUS)

This is a live performance course. Students with a passion for performing and writing their own music should take this class. Where possible, the content focus is centered on the student’s musical interests. This allows the student to explore and develop their music-related interests and career aspirations. Students in this course will perform in school events or other performances and events throughout the year.

The level two Performance Music course is significantly more complex with music-specific knowledge and skills than the level one program.

Through a Pedagogy of Guidance + Action + Experimentation - students who learn in the Arts Faculty will:

  • Have opportunities to engage and experiment with a wide range of arts-related technical disciplines in a safe supportive environment.
  • Develop a love of the arts with a leisure activity that supports wellbeing.
  • Develop the skills and attitudes needed to gain access to further education and/or employment in the creative industries.
  • Understand the role of the arts in the world as a tool for making diverse people/cultures visible and as a tool for social justice.

The course provides a comprehensive platform for those students wishing to continue with Level 3 Performance Music. This course is suited to those interested in a career or tertiary study in music performance, or the extensive performing arts sector.
