Level 2 English: Identity - Semester B
“One of the first things I think young people, especially nowadays, should learn is how to see for yourself and listen for yourself and think for yourself.”
Students should take this course if they want to engage with different perspectives of the world and the unique individuals who populate it. Students will navigate their own whakapapa and the whakapapa of others, explore culture and colonisation, and discover how places and peoples have been represented in literature. Students will dive deep into themes of social justice, cultural diversity and identity. Students will journey contexts from Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands out into the wider world including voices from Black Lives Matter and LGBTQI+ movements. Students should take this course if they want to think independently, gain confidence in their sense of self, and learn to share and communicate their experiences with others.
Standards listed below are subject to change and will be decided in collaboration with the students and their teacher at the beginning of the semester. Students will be offered 8-10 credits for this course. Students will also have the opportunity to take this course without an external exam if they choose.
Students can take this course for both semesters.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement, however, you will need to select both Semester A and B.
This course is approved for University Entrance however, you will need to select both Semester A and B.
Total Credits Available: 12 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 8 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 4 credits.
