L2 Biology
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Limmer.
NCEA Level 2 Biology (2BIO)
This course teaches students about how life is possible at the cellular level. Students will do a practical investigation using microscopes. The course covers how cells are structured and how they function. The processes covered are membrane transport, respiration, photosynthesis, DNA replication and cell division. These are enzyme controlled processes.
Students will learn about adaptation of animals and how they carry out functions such as nutrition or gas exchange. They will also learn about genetics and evolution in terms of inheritance and natural selection.
This course is a required foundational course for students wanting to take L3 Biology.
Curriculum Skills developed involve:
- Understanding that scientists have an obligation to connect ideas to current and historical research.
- Conduct investigations to extend scientific knowledge of the effect of water concentration on osmosis.
- Consider the wider implications of scientific findings.
- Develop a coherent understanding of scientific concepts.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
