Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms A. Howie

L1 Science - PhysChem - Semester B

Students will learn about atomic structure, reactions between acids and carbonates/bases and write chemical equations. In mechanics, you will learn about motion, forces, pressure, energy, work and power. Mathematical skills are useful to be able to use formulae to perform calculations.

Curriculum Skills:

  • Skills: Students will gain an understanding of acids and bases and Mechanics which can lead to any Level 2 Science course.

  • Participation and contributing: carrying out practical tasks and co-operating within a group

  • Relating to others: communicating findings and discussing data

  • Using language, symbols and text: Using ions, periodic table and symbol equations

  • Managing self: Ensuring study and revision is undertaken

  • Thinking: to be curious about chemistry and mechanics in the real world

In order to gain a Course Endorsement, students will have to have studied a Semester A Science course.

Pathway

This semester opens up all the Level 2 Science courses. It is a good idea to couple this course with Maths Semester B Algebra, this will help you if you decide to progress to Level 2 Physics.

Credit Information

This course is eligible for subject endorsement, however, you will need to select both Semester A and B.

Total Credits Available: 8 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 8 credits.
