1DRA

L1 Drama

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Lunt.

NCEA Level 1 Drama (1DRA)

Drama at its core inspires the love of exploring imagination physically. At senior level, Drama continues to develop the skills students have been experimenting with in junior Drama. It also continues to grow students confidence in performing.

The course focuses on the influences of theatre and how it can inspire students’ own original drama. As the course continues, students gain the opportunity to use these skills and learn to perform more sustained and in depth characterisation.

Drama helps to create confident, adaptable team players. It enables creative thinking in all aspects of a student’s life at Kaipara and beyond.

Through a pedagogy of Guidance + Action + Experimentation, students who learn in the Arts Faculty will:

  • Have opportunities to engage and experiment with a wide range of artistic expressions and genres in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Develop a love of the arts as a form of self expression and a leisure activity that supports wellbeing.
  • Develop the skills and attitudes needed to gain access to further education and/or employment in the creative industries.
  • Understand the role of the arts in the world as a tool for making diverse people/cultures visible and as a tool for social justice.

Pathway

There are a wide variety of career pathways related to Drama and performance. The confidence, public speaking and creative thinking skills will help students with any future pathway.
